Sorsogon Governor Chiz Escudero today expressed gratitude to the tandem of Senator Manny Pacquiao and Rep. Lito Atienza, who are running for president and vice president, respectively, for endorsing his senatorial bid in the May 2022 National Elections
“Ako po ay nagpapasalamat kay Senator Manny at kay Buhay Party-list Rep. Atienza sa pag-eendorso sa aking kandidatura. Salamat sa kanilang tiwala,” said Escudero, who is seeking a return to the Senate, which he had served for two full terms.
“I am humbled by this endorsement by Senator Pacquiao who always has a big heart for the poor and good intentions for a better Philippines,” Escudero added.
Escudero, a consistent top pick in various pre-election surveys, filed his certificate of candidacy through his election lawyer George Garcia on October 1, the first day of filing of COC of candidates seeking national and local elective positions in next year’s general elections.
According to Escudero, he is running again for the Senate to offer his long years of experience as a public servant to the next administration in solving a slew of economic and public health problems set off by the outbreak of COVID-19.
In case elected again to the Senate, Escudero said he would push for legislation that would strengthen and empower local government units (LGUs), owing it to his experience as governor of Sorsogon.
“The LGUs should have greater representation in the Senate. And I intend to be one of their strongest allies and advocates,” Escudero said.
Pacquiao and Atienza are running under the regional political party Promdi (Probinsya Muna Development Initiative) founded by the late Cebu Gov. Lito Atienza.
“Tayo naman ay nagkakaisa sa ating hangarin na makapaglingkod ng tapat sa ating mga kababayan regardless of our political affiliation. As I said, with all the problems confronting us, all hands are on deck dapat,” added Escudero, who recently rejoined the Nationalist People’s Coalition.
