MAYORS IN CALABARZON, E. SAMAR ENDORSE CHIZ’S SENATORIAL CANDIDACY

Mayors belonging to the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) in CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Quezon) and Eastern Samar have expressed support for the candidacy of Sorsogon Governor Chiz Escudero, who is seeking a Senate comeback in the May 2022 national elections.

Chapter presidents—San Jose Mayor Valentino Patron, LMP-Batangas; Pila Mayor Edgardo Ramos, LMP-Laguna; Tiaong Mayor Ramon Preza, LMP-Quezon; and Balangkayan Mayor Allan Contado, LMP-Eastern Samar—conveyed the support of the local chief executives to Escudero during a recent meeting in Sorsogon.

The municipalities from the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, Quezon and Eastern Samar have a combined vote of over 5 million.

Data from the Commission on Elections during the 2019 Midterm Elections showed that Laguna had 1.9 million voters from its 24 municipalities and six cities; followed by Batangas with 1.7 million from its 30 towns and four cities. On the other hand, registered voters in Quezon were at 1.28 million from its 39 municipalities and two cities; while Eastern Samar had 338, 718 voters from its 22 towns and one city.

Escudero’s senatorial bid has also been endorsed by the tandems of Vice President Leni Robredo and Sen. Francis Pangilinan; Senator Ping Lacson and Senate President Tito Sotto; and Sen. Manny Pacquiao and Rep. Lito Atienza.

Escudero, a consistent top senatorial choice by respondents of different independent surveys, served two full terms in the Senate before becoming Sorsogon governor in 2019. Prior to his election to the Senate, he served as representative of Sorsogon in Congress.
